Data

Data and data management is a significant part of the ORCHESTRA science programme. The majority of data for ORCHESTRA are managed by the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC), which is the national facility for looking after and distributing data concerning the marine environment. Additionally some data are held with Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA) and the Polar Data Centre (PDC).

BODC, CEDA, and the PDC are three of five designated NERC data centres. The Natural Environment Research Council is part of UK Research and Innovation and funds the ORCHESTRA project.

BODC ORCHESTRA data are available here but for further information and other datasets please see links below:

Policy

All environmental data produced by NERC-funded activities are considered a public good. BODC shares a commitment to NERC to support:

  • Management of data in an effective manner, including a data management plan
  • Free, open and long-term availability of  data

The NERC data policy outlines the details.

The majority of ORCHESTRA data are restricted to project members for a period of two years from collection, after which it becomes publicly available.
